城市规划专业隶属建筑类，是一门综合性很强的跨专业学科。在美国，城市规划工作由于涉及到社会公众利益而备受重视。该专业的毕业生绝大多数或到政府的城市规划设计、城市规划管理、决策咨询、房地产开发等部门从事规划设计与管理，或进入专业的规划事务所，虽然薪酬待遇不是最高，但个人声望提升的空间比较大。
